Who We Are

The Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River and Bay, a nonprofit trade association operating since 1875, is the leading advocate and primary information source for port and related businesses in the tristate region. The Exchange mission is to protect and promote the Delaware River commercial maritime industry, and we accomplish this by sharing information critical to the timely movement of cargo through the ports and affecting positive policy change on the local and national levels. Through an aggressive government affairs program and a comprehensive online suite of maritime information services, the Exchange ensures its members operate in the most favorable economic climate possible.

Government Affairs

The Maritime Exchange is the only advocate that speaks on behalf of all segments of the regional Delaware River maritime industry. Working closely with members, colleagues, other like-minded organizations, federal agencies, and the tristate Congressional delegation, the Exchange addresses issues of international, national, and local scope, representing members’ concerns and giving voice to their views.

Maritime On-Line

Maritime On-Line provides a single portal for vessel and cargo data. It is designed to meet federal government mandates for reporting cargo manifests, stow plans, and other required information, and it facilitates efficient vessel traffic and cargo operations.  Offering real-time vessel positions, complete ship schedules, ship owner information and previous names, import and export cargo manifests, and historical data, Maritime On-Line is the port’s situational awareness portal.

Communications / Publications

Complementing our advocacy and online services, the Exchange keeps members informed in numerous ways.  Each day, Exchange staff reviews the Federal Register and industry news outlets and delivers summaries to member subscribers. Each month brings the President’s report, a concise but comprehensive summary of issues updates, new legislation introduced or passed, final rulemakings, and port happenings.  The quarterly newsletter, The Beacon, takes a deep dive into the hottest issues and updates readers on Exchange and member activities.  The Exchange also publishes an annual port directory—a comprehensive Who’s Who of Delaware River businesses and stakeholders—with listings updated in real time throughout the year.  And most important to members’ daily operations, the Exchange distributes real-time safety, security, and policy alerts from Coast Guard, Customs, the National Weather Service, and a host of other agencies and organizations.

Committees

Maritime Exchange members benefit from several standing and ad hoc committees. The Exchange provides a neutral venue for members to meet with other key regional stakeholders and policymakers to resolve issues, exchange ideas, and work together to find ways to maintain the region’s competitive edge.

Training / Learning

Through the Delaware River 101 and 102 programs, the Exchange provides general port awareness to educate new hires and long-standing members of the port community who may be unfamiliar with operations outside their own organizations.  The Maritime Matters discussion series brings community members together with subject matter experts on timely and relevant issues affecting the maritime industry.  And for those handling documentation associated with hazardous cargoes, the Exchange offers certification training to meet federal and international requirements.
