The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay, is notifying mariners of the expiration of two safety zones established on the Delaware Bay and River to facilitate the safe transit and delivery of two post-Panamax cranes to Greenwich Terminal in Philadelphia, PA.
Safety zones one and two, as detailed in MSIB 19-18, will be deactivated at midnight on April 3, 2018. However, additional maintenance work must be completed before the cranes are operational. During the course of this work, the cranes will be moved from an “up” to a “down” position for testing. When the cranes are in the “down” position, they extend approximately 25 feet into the channel, creating a navigational hazard.
Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution when transiting the area any time the cranes are in the down position and maintain a safe distance from the crane booms. Crane work is expected to be completed by April 5, 2018.
